Native American Baskets
Baskets represent the earliest form of vessels handmade by the Indian Nations of North America. Due to regional and cultural differences one can hardly find two of a kind baskets between various tribes. Traditionally, baskets served multiple purposes and played a significent roll in ceremonial use, as well as in the trade of goods between clans and tribes. Baskets were used in many ways of daily life, including storage of water and food, preparation and transportation of food, and for baby cradles.
The baskets shown in this page originate from various Indian Nations. Among them Apache, Hopi, Navajo, Akimel O'odham (Pima) and Tohono O'odham (Papago).
