Native American Pottery
Pottery has a long tradition amongst the Indian tribes of Northern America. Especially the Pueblos have been making clay vessels for daily use and ceremonies for many generations. Today the majority of items are produced for a steadily growing collector's market. With the increasing demand the quality and artistry of ceramic goods has dramatically improved over the past years. Many potters have begun to experiment with new materials and techniques, and the masters of the trade create - still only using their hands - most impressive artifacts. The most famous pottery items today are made by the Hopi, the pueblos of Acoma, Zia, Jemez, Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, Cochiti, as well as in the village of Mata Ortiz in the Casas Grandes region in Northern Mexico.
